Week 3 Tuesday 8/16/16

Foundations of Algebra & Algebra I

All classes went to the computer lab to complete the first session of the math SMI.

Week 3 Monday 8/15/16

Foundations of Algebra

On Monday students practiced comparing negative and positive decimals as well as learning how to numerically place them in order.  Those who did not finish the classwork were assigned the last 11-20 problems for homework.

Algebra I

Students started learning how to write and read the language of Algebra. Students began writing expressions using the terminology that represents mathematical operations as well as solved the expressions. Students had to finish the final two expressions and solve them for homework.

Week 2 8/8-8/12

Foundations of Algebra I
In the second week of school students in the Foundations of Algebra class spent the first couple days working on learning how to determine the absolute value of a number. Students learned that the absolute value of a number is based on the distance a number is away from zero.  The second concept students learned was how to convert fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions. Due to a family emergency, a substitute covered my class from Wednesday to Friday and students practiced the content they learned on Monday and Tuesday.

Algebra I

In the second week of school students in the Algebra I class worked on the order of operations and had a brief review of basic fundamentals of math. Due to a family emergency, a substitute covered my class from Wednesday to Friday and students practiced the content they learned on Monday and Tuesday.

Week 1 8-1/8-5

Foundations

This week students spent the week reviewing basic mathematical concepts. Of the concepts reviewed included:

              Monday
Plotting coordinates on the x and y axis

              Tuesday
Prime Factorization
Identifying prime and composite numbers

              Wednesday
Learning to find the greatest common factor (GCF)

              Thursday
Reviewing the order of operations through the use of PEMDAS

              Friday
A basic skills assessment to identify strengths and weakness of students.

Moving forward, we will start to focus on the standards provided by the county and follow the timeline identified on the syllabus.
